28 Years of Exporting ExpertiseTom Galey, President, MBA Global Management Listen to Message: Tom Galey's History with China :Tom Galey started his career early in the Telescope industry developing scientific equipment for a Ball Aerospace engineer. In the 80's he moved to Taipei and began studying Mandarin Chinese and developed the Star Tracker, a telescope device designed by Ball. The opportunity to develop novelty consumer gifts arose and he ran the buying office for a large Canadian chain store, producing hundreds of goods made in a range of Asian nations. This gave Tom the opportunity to travel throughout the region learning production and export issues first-hand. Later, he was instrumental in coordinating a joint-venture factory in Mainland China for a Taiwanese firm. In the 1990's, Mr. Galey worked in Pacific Island US territory of Guam with Esso Eastern/Exxon as a marketing executive. He later joined Budweiser Micronesia and managed the overseas production of Budweiser promotional products. As director of Marketing in the Pacific Rim, he pioneered factory-direct Asian purchasing for overseas divisions. At the start of the 21st century, Tom developed and sold an import company specializing in Asian development of promotional products for the ad specialties industry. Subsequent projects inlcuded Project Management for the production of sublimated apparel, which involved innovative printing technologies in China. Other projects included a line of simulated stone wall panels. The research concluded that the"three Chinas" was the most optimal route to take in developing complex new items for the consumer and wholesale market. This prompted Tom to further develop his skills and contacts in product development in Asia. Tom graduated from the University of Colorado with a degree in Economics and has a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. He remains fluent in Mandarin Chinese and speaks enough Taiwanese go get into trouble! Tom is also the leading author on how to import products from Asia in " Top Secrets on How To Import From China" A letter from the president:
When I moved to Taipei in the 1980s, trade was brisk, the exchange rate was great, and the future of China looked very good. Building novelty gifts, toys and consumable items was an amazing opportunity. At times I thought I felt like Einstein, when he was working in the patent office as a youngster. I share his same passion as I create new products--be them simple or difficult. And Asia is where it's all happening. I have been fortunate to create products for some of the greatest marketing firms on the planet. As a Marketing Executive with Exxon & Budweiser in Asia, I had an eye opening experience in multinational thinking and order processing. Budweiser is arguably the finest marketing firm in the world, and my rare opportunity to create product for A/B was extraordinary and valuable. Later, after I developed and sold an import promotional products company, I discovered many people importing product who thought they knew what they were doing, but really had no clue on specific issues. I saw people struggling to learn about the unknown, and I watched top executuves take uncomfortable risks--risks that would not be so risky had they hired an expert! Today, I bring my clients an understanderstanding how the three Chinas work together. Product is conceptualized in Taiwan, produced in China, and shipped through Hong Kong. I saw this trend occuring twenty years ago, and I 've kept up with the wave of change. My entire career has found me at some point in the Product lifecycle circle. The process of "concept / production / shipping / marketing / sales / repeat" is what I know best and I can help you acheive your corporate goals. I like to hear about new ideas and help people get better value from overseas production. You see, I personally have gone through the many headaches of asian importing and can steer you away from hassles and into the right direction. My team consists of the very brightest, most experienced and reliable "China Traders" you'll ever find. Drop me a line over email or give me a call for a free consultation to talk about your idea. I have a strong feeling my team can help! Sincerely, Tom Galey President, Three Chinas Consulting
